Breed Notes - 2 Sep 2014
I spoke to Maggie Spencer today, and congratulated her on winning “A” with Dollar. The weather at the Obedience Show was just terrible, and yet Dollar was happy to remain in her down stay whilst the wind blew and the rain poured. I do think our breed is particularly good when the elements are terrible. Maybe it’s their roots in East Germany, it’s never too wet, too cold, or too windy for a Hovawart – only occasionally too hot.
Discover Dogs is at Earls Court again this year, for the last time, and as usual we are appealing for helpers to man the booth. Maggie and company will set up on the Saturday, and John and I will take down at the end of Sunday. If you feel you and your dog would be able to take a turn please do get in touch with me.
I have heard from Nick and Helen that Freya had a couple of good matings on successive days with Boomer. Evidently his owner took him out training in between, but Helen and Nick couldn’t establish what he was being trained for, as he seemed to know what he was doing the first time. Actually, Boomer is very successful at IPO (it used to be called Schutzhund), and is in the all German final in October.
It is too soon yet to know whether either of the bitches mated are pregnant, but hopefully in the couple of weeks we will know more. Nick and Helen are staying in France, because Freya is a poor traveller, and everything is being done to help her stay calm - with that desirable sense of well –being!
From a quick phone call with our secretary Liz, I gather entries are trickling in for the Show on October 5th when she was rather hoping for a deluge. Please, everyone who can enter the show do so, and as soon as possible…it makes organising things like catalogues and catering so much easier if numbers are known early.
