Breed Notes - 1 Aug 2012
Had a couple of hip scores from Maggie Spencer, Hightimbers Tuppence was 3-4 and exactly the same for Hightimbers Penny. Always a relief when you receive the KC certificates. I was reading in a recent DW that the KC has made changes to requirements for Assured Breeder Scheme folk. Eye testing for all the relevant breeds must now be carried out within 18 months of the birth of the litter. Until now, eye testing is something that has never been required for our breed over here, although I understand that the Germans and Dutch are now doing it routinely, but with our experience of Acorn I wonder whether it should be. If anybody has had cataracts problems I would be interested to hear from them, as surely Acorn can’t be the only Hovawart with this problem. She returns to the Specialist in September, when we hope of learn a little more about her condition, especially with the million dollar question of whether to breed or not.
I was given a brilliant receipt for dog titbits last week. Very simple – a small tin of tuna in oil (any oil) mixed up with three whole fresh eggs, and a little wholemeal flour, mixed thoroughly, and smoothed out into a small flat dish which you micro-wave for 6 – 8 minutes, and bingo! Cool, and cut into Oxo-sized pieces and your dog will jump through fire for a square.
