Breed Notes - 14 Dec 2011
A friend of a friend who is very successful in obedience has recently had a litter of puppies, tailored particularly for obedience – part Beardie and part Border collie. The puppies are now two weeks old and to assist their development their dedicated breeder has introduced a CD of noises which she plays to them each day. This “Noises” tape works through a series of different sounds, over fifty in all over a couple of hours. Far too many noises to list down here, but suffice to say Thunder and Lightning, Gun Shot, Crow-Scarer, Road Work Drill, Lawnmower, Jet Plane, Helicopter, Motorbike, Buses, Football Crowd, Baby Screaming, Tube Train, Police Squad Car,& Dustbin Cart, to name but a few, are included. Having struggled with Acorn who is anxious if anything unusual occurs, I felt this was a splendid routine to get young puppies “bomb proof” from an early age. I believe these tapes can be purchased from the internet, and I for one will certainly be investing in this type of CD when we next have a litter, as we now don’t have the shop environment that used to serve the same purpose.

We had a great party at Ringcraft this week and broke up for Christmas after mince pies and goodies, a quiz, and of course the Fancy Dress Competition. Acorn, in a South Seas grass skirt with matching accoutrements, came 2nd behind a white English bull terrier dressed in a scarlet tutu with matching head dress, a perfect Sugar Plum Fairy!

All that remains is for me to wish everybody a Very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year, and lets all enjoy our wonderful breed in 2012.
