Breed Notes - 21 Jul 2009
We were lucky on Saturday and had a completely dry day in Malvern for the National Working and Pastoral Breeds, one of my favourite venues. It was rather a low entry, but there were only a couple of absentees. Traffic as usual at this time of the year was ghastly, but one of the few advantages of being third in the ring was that everybody had extra time to park and get settled before Ferelith Somerfield got started at just after 12.30 . BOB went to John Mackay and Susi Thayer’s Harvey (Pines Hapi), which came as a wonderful surprise to his excited owners, after a disappointing day for them at Crufts. They have certainly been working hard on Harvey’s ringcraft technique, with a lot of training classes, and it has paid off well. You do need your wits about you when you are showing a big bouncy 18 month old boy. I am sure this is the first such award for Susi & John, and was greeted excitedly by the spectators. BoS was our Orchid, and reserves were Val Shone’s Jet and our Whistle.

I missed out on my usual shopping after judging, as there were only one or two stands. Where have they all gone? I’m hoping for better shopping at Paignton. The Club Committee meets on Sunday, when the final arrangements will be set in place for the club show on 4th October, at Oswestry, Shropshire, our usual venue. Don’t forget to keep the day clear.
