Hovawart breed notes January 19th 2020

This week it was the Manchester Championship Show, first of the year with Breed classes, judged by Dr. Annukka Paloheimo from Finland, and what a day for Val Shone, who took both top awards, BOB with her new imported puppy, Saxon Syn Tiswy vd Romerweide at Zwartbos, BOS going to Z. Moondance. We spoke to her today and she still has not left cloud 9!!

Talking of puppies, John and I took a trip north to see the Ann Travis litter. At seven weeks they are pretty well ready for their new homes. After such a tricky start they have really come on well, nicely chunky and full of fun.

We have finally given up the struggle with Kibbles season, and sent her off to kennels for a few days with her friend Poppy. It may feel like the wrong way round, but our Remus has not been with us the year yet, and he was stressed enough with the season, let alone facing him with a stay in another strange place.

Little Thursday came with us for an outing to the garden centre today. They are usually dog-friendly places, and we find a good opportunity for puppy socialisation. So many people want to give their opinion as to what breeds she is a cross between, so she gets lots of stroking and cuddles, and we get to explain that she is a hovawart lots of times. She met her first wheelchair user this time, an encounter that went really well, and will stand our 5 month old puppy for ever.
