Breed Notes - 15 Nov 2016
Firstly, many congratulations to Ellen and Thomas Gutjahr and their lovely blonde girl Bella (Zwartbos Arreton) on their achievement , being placed Group 4 at the Working & Pastoral Breeds of Scotland Championship Show, under judge Margaret Wildman, having gone BoB under Keith Nathan, who made MarkTyreman’s Teddy ( Fasskoleys Mathan) BD. It was so wonderful, opening Dog World and seeing her photograph there. It always feels as though Hovawarts are just making up the numbers, but maybe this success will give other group judges a nudge, and get our breed featuring more prominently. I cannot recall this happening before at a Championship Show…absolutely amazing.

Another triumph for a Val Shone bred dog, with Lexi (Z.Moet) winning out of Beginners Obedience, besting 31 dogs in the process. Well done to Janice Robinson and Dave Brown, it is always a great achievement to be ahead of border collies in these events. What with Obedience, Working Trials, Showing and I believe being a PAT dog, Lexi (and Janice and Dave) certainly lives life to the full…just like a Hovawart should !

We had the committee meeting here on Sunday, and Ann Travis gave me the good news that Dave has finally had the go-ahead for his operation, which should be happening next Monday. We all wish him all the best, and let us hope that the year ends on a high for them health-wise. It has been a long haul, that’s for sure.

There was a lot of excitement when it came to discussions on the 2017 show, because we have booked the showground for both days of the weekend (September30th & October1st) to properly celebrate our 30th anniversary. We have our patron Ans Schellekens as the judge for the show, which is being planned for the Saturday, together with the Obedience, a social event for the evening and then Rally and maybe have-a-go agility, Maggie running a training class, and a seminar on the Sunday. Definitely one to put on your 2017 calendars, still available from John (check out the web site,
