Breed Notes - 7 Jun 2016
John Blackwell has been in touch to say that a memorial service is being held for Linda on Monday, June 13th at 2.00pm at St.Laurence Church, Wicken, and afterwards at the Maids Head, also in Wicken. Linda’s request was for there to be bright colours, music and dancing, so come suitably prepared, and Hovawarts are welcome. These days the celebration of life is the order of the day, and it is lovely to remember that way.

News on the puppy front, Ann’s Farica is due a week today (Tuesday) but Ann reckons they may be a bit early, probably no bad thing with the weather as warm as it is right now. Sadly Dave’s hip operation has been postponed again due to a stubborn infection, which conjures up visions of puppies and crutches intertwined….fingers crossed on all fronts there, then. I also had a chat with Val, who is delighted that her Chale has scanned positively, and is due at the end of the month. She also said that she was really pleased with the dog involved, a blond called Fuego. Puppies in the summer reminds me of frozen wet towels on a conveyor belt system, which did seem to help cool the nursing mother without making the puppies too cold. After the comments of a week or so back, it looks as though the UK will be able to boast a representative selection of colours for a change. Anyway, best wishes and good luck to both households.

Our Chairman, Gill Stockton, has a super entry of 18 hovawarts making 30 entries between them, which hopefully means that the breed will be well represented in other stakes classes too. It is good for us to have a high profile in these classes, and the Border Union Show is always enjoyable…providing the weather is OK. I still have the picture in my mind of Craig carrying his beautiful blonde bitch to the ringside so she didn’t get muddy up to her elbows, and being rewarded by a thoroughly deserved BoB.

Maggie has another couple of “mainly Hovawart” training sessions lined up, one is tomorrow, so a bit late for that, but there is a further one on June 29th… put it in your diary.

Talking of the weather, no need I’m sure to remind you to ensure water is always available, that cars get awfully (and very dangerously) hot in the sun, and that a nice cool place to lie during the heat of the day is essential for your dog. Keep cool!
