Breed Notes - 23 May 2016
This week I heard that Janet Kibble was found dead at home. Janet bred hovawarts under the Kynyaf affix and was always willing to give advice to those starting out in the breed and had great knowledge. I sat on the committee with Janet for several years and she had bred John & Elaines well known bitch Orchid, Kynyaf Tiy of Pines who was a most successful bitch in working trials and in the show ring with her being the only Hovawart that has been short listed in the working group at crufts. It is sad that we have lost such a wonderful person. Moving onto show results, at Birmingham National the results on higham press are correct where Mr Hans Van Den Berg gave Gina Challoners bitch Isalynn V Elderens Hof BOB from the LD/B class and reserve bitch went to John & Elaines Pines Acorn CDEX,UDEX from the VD/B class , however BD went to Pines Wiggins owned by Mr Harrison who was second in limit D/B being beaten by the bitch and in open Dog he came third after being beaten by two further dogs. One of the unbeaten dogs, Bergenhovs Jackpot owned by Miss L Nichol was given RBD.There seems to be some confusion as I thought KC rules were clear on who could challenge for these awards. Last weekend seen two open shows with Hovawart classes, one down south and the other up north. Starting with Perthshire open show where one class was given to us, we had an entry of seven with two absentees and the judge Mrs H Gillies (Kartmel) found her BOB in Fasskoleys Silkie owned by Min Inches, bred by Ann Stewart with my girl IHF CH Annvad Daimys Princess getting second, and it was Caileags 11 birthday on the day of the show sharing her birthday with the judge !, which commented on how she doesn’t look her age. At Redditch show, I believe they had an entry of 10 hovawarts over three classes and the judge was Hazel Fitzgibbon who found her BOB in Janice Robinson & Dave Brown’s Zwartbos Moet with reserve BOB going to the Hemsworth’s Driftingsky Tousle. Well done to all above.

I had a busy weekend this week as I was stewarding for two days at SKC and was lucky enough to be stewarding for Mrs M Wildman ( Wildax ) who was judging our breed. We had an entry of five and she had found her BOB in Heather McManus Fasskoleys Ailsacraig from the open bitch class with the RBB coming from the same class in Mr & Mrs Gutjahr’s Zwartbos Arreton who also took the Best Dog award with their boy Driftingsky Dusk from the open dog class. Reserve BD was given to Heather McManus young boy, Quincebois Redwood. It was lovely to catch up with Mark, Heather, Ellen and partners. Well done to all. Still on shows we have South Wales Kennel Association CH Show who have put on breed classes for Hovawarts for the first time. We are on Saturday 8th October at the Royal Welsh Showground , Builth Wells, with entries closing Friday 26th August postmark, and online entries close midnight 5th September. This show is a week after our club show. Our Judge is Sue Hewart-Chambers and we have three classes. We should all make an effort to try and support this show. Any news please get in touch.
