Breed Notes - 17 Nov 2013
Well the last show for 2013 that scheduled Hovawarts is over and Working & Pastoral Breeds Association of Scotland was held at Ingliston in Edinburgh with a reasonable entry of seven with one absentee for our judge Mr Richards. We were third in the ring and Mr Richards was excellent in the way he went over the dogs and gave each of us time , was very kind with the dogs and was really interested in us which is great to have a judge who is genuine . He found his BD and BOB in Anne Stewarts, IR CH FASSKOLEYS SALLINS SOLO a black & gold dog which was bred by Anne whilst she lived in Scotland before moving to Ireland to take up her new job. He comes from a litter of two, both B/G dogs and both IR CH’s, he was bred out of IR CH MICONA CHIEFTAN and PINES RILEY. It was lovely to see Anne again and a much worth While trip for her. The BB went to our IHF CH ANNVAD DAIMYS PRINCESS FOR HOSARVAR, with reserves going to Julie Condron’s boy Gunner, ZWARTBOS CARISBROOKE and Anne’s IR CH FASSKOLEYS CARMEL MURPHY with BP going to Anne Travis’s puppy ANNVAD PRINCESS GRIZELDA who was competing at her first show and took everything in her stride. The colour distribution of the Hovawarts at the show were three black & gold, two black’s and one blonde, so it being nice for our judge to see all the colours. It was nice to catch up with Min and Mrs McManus with her Fasskoleys Ailsacraig, with Min forgetting to enter the dogs, she came along to support us all. More show news is that Mark Tyerman with his dog Teddy, FASSKOLEYS MATHAN got BOB at Perth open show, so well done Mark.
Last weekend I took the opportunity to attend one of the seminars run by the kennel club during their education month, with many seminars on it was the Requirements of a Dog Show Judge that took my interest with the presentation and assessment being carried out by Mrs Jane Gregory who was absolutely fantastic in making a complex subject with regards to KC Rules and Regulations easier to understand and interesting. I would recommend anyone to attend Jane’s presentations as you would not be disappointed. It was good to catch up with recent rule changes and have them clarified. Remember that the closing date for Manchester is approaching and you can use this show to qualify for crufts, our judge is Andrew Brace who last judged us in May this year at this same venue. We have three classes, so please support them. Entries close 6th December postmark, or online up to 16th December. Another show offering classes is Working & Pastoral open show in February with entries closing in January, and our judge is Ms Yvonne Brason, yet again three classes. Any news or views to help keep breed notes going please let me know.

Craig Hosie.
