GREAT PICTURE THIS LAST WEEK IN “OUR DOGS” OF THE SOUTH EAST TEAM FROM CRUFTS OBEDIENCE, WITH PAULA FOAKES AND RIOJA SITTING IN THE FRONT ROW SMILING AWAY. IT WAS A REALLY COMPLIMENTARY CRITIQUE, AS WELL. WELL DONE, BOTH OF YOU !!

ONE UNFORESEEN CONSEQUENCE OF THE LOCK-DOWN AND SOCIAL DISTANCING REGIME WE NOW HAVE IN PLACE IS THAT OUR PUPPY, THURSDAY, IS GETTING IDEAS ABOVE HER STATION. MOST OF HER WALKS ARE ON HOME TERRITORY, BUT IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET AT LEAST MINMAL SOCIALISATION FOR HER, I HAVE BEEN WALKING HER DOWN THE LANE. OF COURSE, WHEN WE SEE OTHER WALKERS AND DOGS, BECAUSE THURSDAY IS NOW QUITE LARGE AND RATHER BLACK, THEY TEND TO BACK INTO DRIVEWAYS, ALMOST GET INTO HEDGES, AND GENERALLY TAKE EVASIVE MEASURES. THIS COINCIDES WITH THURSDAY’S BARK OF GREETING, AND NOW SHE HAS IT IN HER MIND THAT SHE IS A BIG DOG THAT FRIGHTENS PEOPLE AWAY….SHE SEEMS TO FIND THIS RATHER SATISFYING, SO IT WILL NEED QUITE A BIT OF AVERSION THERAPY AS SOON AS WE ARE ALLOWED TO STAND AND CHAT TO PEOPLE AGAIN.

SO SAD TO SEE THE FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES BEING EXPERIENCED BY THE ANIMAL HEALTH TRUST. THEY HAVE BEEN DOING SUCH VALUABLE RESEARCH, AS WELL AS BEING THE GO-TO PLACE FOR DIFFICULT OPERATIONS AND HEALTH PROBLEMS IN MOST SPECIES OF ANIMALS, NOT JUST DOGS AND CATS. I HOPE THAT THE GOVERNING BODIES LOOKING AFTER DOGS, CATS HORSES ETC WILL DIG DEEP TO HELP KEEP THIS WONDERFUL FACILITY AVAILABLE TO US. I WELL REMEMBER SOME YEARS BACK THEY OPERATED ON A FRIEND’S DACHSHUND FOR A SPINAL PROBLEM THAT EVERYONE ELSE HAD GIVEN UP ON, SENDING HIM HOME TO LIVE SEVERAL MORE GOOD YEARS. SADLY, THEY DIDN’T MANAGE TO CURE HIM OF NIPPING ANKLES OR YAPPING NON-STOP !!

IT IS RATHER STABLE DOOR AND HORSE BOLTING, BUT I HAVE JUST ORDERED AN EQUINE MOBILE SHOWER UNIT. THIS IS TO DEAL WITH ALL THAT MUD THAT THE DOGS PICK UP ON THEIR COATS, AND WHICH, IN REMUS’ CASE IN PARTICULAR, SEEMS TO TURN TO CONCRETE OVERNIGHT. IT HAS BEEN REALLY DIFFICULT USING BUCKETS OF WATER THAT NEVER KEEPS WARM FOR VERY LONG, SO I HOPE THIS WILL PROVE TO BE THE ANSWER. I WILL REPORT BACK, IF IT IS SOMETHING WE CAN ASSEMBLE OURSELVES….I’M NOT SURE IT WILL COUNT AS AN ESSENTIAL ACTIVITY TO OUR PLUMBER.
