WHAT STRANGE TIMES WE ARE LIVING THROUGH, ALTHOUGH I MUST ADMIT THAT FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS TO STAY AT HOME IN ISOLATION HASN’T BEEN MUCH OF A HARDSHIP TO JOHN AND MYSELF, BEING RETIRED ALREADY EACH DAY HAS BEEN OUR OWN NOW FOR COMING UP THREE YEARS, SO WE ARE QUITE USED TO DAYTIME TV, AND THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WE FIND IS THE NEED TO PLAN A BIT FURTHER AHEAD FOR MEALS ETC, TO AVOID TOO FREQUENT VISITS TO THE SHOPS. THE ANIMALS WE HAVE STILL NEED THE SAME DAILY ATTENTION, AND INDEED THE DRIER WEATHER HAS ACTUALLY MADE LIFE A BIT EASIER, AS THE WELLIES DON’T GET SUCKED DOWN AT EVERY STEP NOW. WE ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO GIVE THE DOGS A DECENT WALK WITHOUT LEAVING OUR PROPERTY, SO WE DON’T EVEN HAVE TO GO OUT VERY EARLY OR VERY LATE TO AVOID OTHER DOG WALKERS. THE ONLY REAL DOWNSIDE HAS BEEN THE CANCELLATION OF ROUTINE OPERATIONS FOR BOTH ME AND ONE OF THE DOGS. UNFORTUNATELY, THEY WERE BOTH CANCELLED AT THE LAST MINUTE, AFTER A WASTED DAY AT THE VETS AND AN OVERNIGHT STAY IN HOSPITAL FOR ME. OF COURSE I QUITE UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAPPENED, BUT I DID RESENT THE 24 HOURS NIL-BY-MOUTH THAT I WENT THROUGH FOR NO REASON. ANYONE WHO KNOWS ME WILL REALISE HOW AWFUL I FOUND THAT !

THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF PUBLICITY ABOUT PEOPLE PANIC BUYING WHAT APPEARS TO BE A RATHER STRANGE LIST OF ITEMS. I CAN ADD CHICKEN FOOD TO THAT LIST. JOHN WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO GET THE LAST BAG OF LAYERS PELLETS IN A 20 MILE RADIUS AT THE WEEKEND. MAYBE EVERYONE IS REVERTING TO THE WAR TIME PRACTICE OF KEEPING A HEN OR TWO IN THEIR BACK GARDEN….I REMEMBER MY MOTHER DOING JUST THAT WHEN I WAS VERY SMALL.

WE HAVE RECEIVED THE KENNEL CLUB BRIEFING ABOUT THE VIRUS AND REGISTRATIONS, HEALTH TESTS AND SO ON. I MUST SAY I DO HOPE THAT THIS EMERENCY IS VERY SHORT-LIVED IF ONLY BECAUSE A LENGTHY PERIOD WITH NO ROUTINE CHECKING COULD PUT BREEDS BACK MANY YEARS AS REGARDS ERADICATION OF HEREDITARY DISEASES, AND THERE ARE BOUND TO BE THOSE UNSCRUPULOUS PEOPLE WHO WILL BREED UNSUITABLE DOGS WHILST THEY CAN SLIP UNDER THE RADAR. IT CAN’T BE EASY, EITHER, FOR THOSE WITH PUPPIES ON THE GROUND, OR WITH PREGNANT BITCHES, WITH THE PROSPECT OF HAVING TO KEEP PUPPIES FOR A LOT LONGER THAN ANTICIPATED, OR IS GOOD FOR THE PUPPIES, GREAT DIFFICULTIES IN GETTENG TO PROPERLY KNOW PROSPECTIVE BUYERS, AND INDEED GETTING ANY ROUTINE VACCINATIONS OR HEALTH CHECKS FOR THE LITTLE ONES. ALTHOUGH CONTACT WITH OUTSIDE SOURCES OF INFECTION WILL BE MINIMALISED, I CAN’T SEE THAT APPLYING TO RATS, SO LEPTOSPIROSIS WILL BE A REAL WORRY.

TALKING OF PUPPIES, OF COURSE OUR “THURSDAY” (PINES SIMPLY RED) WAS SET TO TAKE THE PUPPY SHOW WORLD BY STORM, WASN’T SHE ?! AT LEAST WE ARE SPARED THE DISAPPOINTMENT OF HER BEING AT THE WRONG END OF THE LINE, AND I CAN DO THE “I’M SURE SHE WOULD HAVE WON LOTS OF TIMES” BIT WITHOUT FEAR OF CONTADICTION….UNTIL PEOPLE GET THE CHANCE TO SEE HER, ANYWAY.

KEEP SAFE AND KEEP WALIKG THE DOGS.
