Breed Notes (Our Dogs - Craig Hosie) - 4 Mar 2018
Catching up on results, we had no classes at Boston Ch show but Hovawart’s were represented in the AVNSC and in the Rare Breeds. Mrs Sue Bird was judging both classes and in the AVNSC, Hightimbers Master Tickets got a 1st in Puppy Dog and a 2nd in Junior dog owned by Ms Thompson and in Puppy Bitch Krista Van Elderens Hof at Farmwatch owned by Gina Challoner got a 1st place and went on and got Best Puppy. Second in the Puppy class was Hightimbers Special Ticket owned by Mrs Vincent who also picked up a third place in junior bitch. In Post Graduate Bitch Gina’s girl Isalynn V Elderens Hof at Farmwatch took second place and went on and got RBB. In the AV Rare Breeds Working Gina’s girl Krista Van Elderens Hof at Farmwatch got 1st in puppy with Mrs Vincent and Hightimbers Special Ticket taking VHC and a 2nd in Junior. Gina Challoner with Isalynn V Elderens Hof at Farmwatch got a 2nd place in Post Graduate class. Great results and well done to all the owners who attended and was flying the flag for the breed. Onto Manchester where Marion Sargent was judging the four breed classes with an entry of 11 with 7 absentees, with BB & BOB going to Mr & Mrs McLure’s Kanukalos Burletta with RBB going to Gina Challoner’s Isalynn V Elderens Hof at Farmwatch and BP went to Gina’s young girl Krista Van Elderens Hof at Farmwatch. Well done.

National Working and Pastoral breeds society premier open show which schedules 3 classes was held on the 16th February with our breed judge being Mrs carol Turner ( Chakona ) and thanks to Lynne White who passed on the results. BOB & BB was Micona Juliet ( IKC ) owned by Lucy Campbell with RBB going to Gina Challoner Isalynn v Elderens Hof at Farmwatch with Gina picking up BP with her girl Krista Van Elderens Hof at Farmwatch ( IMP NLD ). Only 3 attended, but a very well done to all for supporting the classes. I received an email from Steve Bennett with regards to the 4 Hovawart Classes which are being held at the Redditch Open Show where all national rare and import breeds are scheduled to be held on the 18th May 2019 at the Sports Connexion, Ryton on Dunsmore near Coventry. Our Judge is Michael Von Bruggenburg-Rothschild which is no stranger to the breed having judged us at SKC and also at the Hovawart club show special award classes. Please give Michael our support and give him a good entry. Online entries can be made through Fosse Data or by Phoning the Secretary Steve Bennet on 07884324430 for a schedule.

A few members have been in touch with their success in various disciplines which I am delighted to share. Firstly we have had Dave Brown and Janice Robinson with their girl Lexi , Zwartbos Moet who is competing in Rally and has just moved up to level 4 at her recent competition that they attended, and Janice stated that Lexi qualified with an excellent score in level 4 but needs another 2 for her title and to move up . Rally is something I don’t know much about but is very interesting , not many clubs in Scotland do Rally but Janice said that you can enter 2 levels at a competition and that they are competing in level 4 and 5. What a wonderful team, well done. Louise Nichol kindly passed on her success with Cash ( Bergenhous Jackpot P-BEG EX ) at a recent BCOS obedience finals a few weekends ago and won a top three place in the FCI classes which are new to the UK. This is not only an achievement for the breed but for his placement as well and has made breed history in the UK for the first Hovawart to compete in this type of competition. Well done Louise and Cash, another wonderful team.

We are lucky in our breed that we have many people with different talent’s and we have very dedicated owners who train and work their dogs in the field of Search and Rescue. Becky Leigh Harrison shared along with her Dad Mark Harrison that Stuart Kenny who has a pup from Becky , Lowenheart Kinder known as Scout passed his NSARDA assessment to become a trainee Search and Rescue dog with a very proud owner and handler Stuart Kenny. Scout is following in his Mums footsteps ( Fibi Srebrne Pole ) who is also a successful Search and Rescue dog and I believe that Scout’s sister is also under training with Mark Harrison as well. Scout is Stuart’s second Hovawart to be working and is taking over from his girl Sky who is now 10 years old and has retired from search

and rescue after 7 years of dedicated work. Sky was bred by Caroline and James Dunn of the Spicemill kennel with her kennel name being Spicemill Atlanta Night Sky. Happy retirement Sky and well done for all your dedicated work over the years , I can honestly say we are proud of what you have achieved.

This is what breed notes are all about , sharing our success in the world we share with our dogs, in all that we do , so please pass on your news so that we can share it. The time you read these notes, Crufts will be upon us, I won’t be there this year but wishing everyone a safe journey and every success.
