Breed Notes (Our Dogs - Craig Hosie) - 27 Nov 2017
We have so much to catch up on, l would love to start off with a huge congratulations to John & Elaine Sharpe on their fantastic BIS win with their B&G Girl Poppy , known in the show world as Quincebois Tulipwood by Pines who went over to Sweden to the International Hovawart Federation conference and show which is held annually in a different country each year with John representing our club along with Poppy’s breeder Nick & Helen Boisseau. I believe an entry of 42 dogs entered for the show with Helen and Nick taking Best Veteran with Freya , Pines Ankhet at Quincebois which is bred by John & Elaine , with Poppy taking BIS, what an achievement for both breeder and owner and I believe Poppy followed in her mother’s footsteps with this award, as her mum Freya had received the same award in Italy two years ago. A very well done.

At the same time as the IHF show, our own club was celebrating their 30th anniversary show with our Patron Ans Schellekens from Holland taking centre stage judging our dogs. I was stewarding for Ans and with breed judging not finishing until after five at night we were busy in the ring. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ans and our very hard working Committee for all their dedication and hard work that went into such a fantastic weekend. On the Saturday night we had a talk by Ans on the history of the breed with a fantastic hand out to accompany the talk , we had dinner with wine and then another talk this time with Mark Harrison and his search dog Abbie on the hard work with the high and lows of training to get qualified and then when all his hard work was put into practice when himself and Abbie was called upon to go out on the hills and search for missing walkers that didn’t return from a days walking. This was a very interesting talk and thanks must go to Mark and Ans on their presentations. On the Sunday we started the day with Ans presenting a talk on the breed standard with pictures of dogs with faults and correctly constructed dogs with audience participation re why correct construction is important. You were able to purchase a copy of this presentation for £5 which was great .It was then time for lunch and the afternoon had various work stations for those with their dogs who wasn’t going to take part in the judging assessment. I must admit it was a great weekend . So I think I can say from the members a big thank you to our committee for all their hard work that went into the planning and carrying out such a successful weekend. Our winners from the show is on the clubs website along with a detailed critique of all dogs that were entered for show. Ans found her BIS in Liz & Lynn’s B&G girl Driftingsky Mist , home bred and no stranger to top awards and the icing on the cake for Liz & Lynn was that this award gave her the title of IHF CH , so a fantastic result and a very well done, I was so thrilled for them and to see such a lovely bitch get the title she so deserves. RBIS , BD and BOS went to another dog which Liz & Lynn bred and owned by Bettina & Andrew Williams , Driftingsky Arcus ,a beautiful Blonde boy with reserves in both dog and bitch going to Mark & Becky Harrison’s Pines Wiggins with their search and rescue bitch which they imported from Poland , Fibi Srebrne Pole, both were B&G. Well done Mark & Becky.

We had a wonderful breed feature in Our dogs and thanks must go to Helen Davenport Willis along with our breed club and all who took time to write articles, I would say it brought over the breed in a good light with many breeders advertising and with good pictures of the dogs it was a good read. You can get copies of this feature from Our dogs. Onto Midland Counties Canine Society where we don’t have classes however Heather Payne had entered her dogs in AVNSC Working under judge Barry Croft and got 1st place in PGD with her import Mika Des Amis De Gaia and a 3rd in open dog, this was Heather’s first CH show with her dogs, so a very well done on this achievement and for flying the flag for our breed. Thanks to Dave Brown for emailing Results to me.
