Breed Notes (Our Dogs - Craig Hosie) - 17 Jul 2017
It is with great sadness that I received a call from Steve Shone to say that himself and Val had to make the difficult decision to have Flynn put to sleep whilst they were in Holland visiting their friends at the annual breed show . Flynn , his show name Minches Jet of Zwartbos was a handsome black & Gold boy and was bred by Min Inches. Val & Steve had him from a puppy and had lots of good memories, he had a successful show career with the highlight of being BOB Crufts in 2011, a sound dog with excellent character and I found myself in his company on several occasions and what a joy to be around , a dog who certainly put the breed In a positive light. It is never easy to say goodbye and with 12 years of friendship , it will leave a big gap in their lives. Our thoughts are with you both Val & Steve.

I mentioned in my last notes that Dundee open show had 2 classes for judge Peter Simmons (Simmovon), winner of PG class was Quincebois Redwood owned by Heather McManus with the open class winner and BOB going to Mark Tyerman Fasskoleys Mathan. A good entry with 2 in the PG class and 5 in open class. Thanks to Heather McManus for the results. Onto Border union CH show where I was judging , what a very hot day it was and with an excellent entry of 18 with 2 absentees, my BB &BOB went to Ellen & Thomas Gutjahr, Zwartbos Arreton with RBB going to Gill Stockton’s Annvad Lady Hazel with BD going to the litter brother of the best bitch, Zwartbos Carisbrooke owned by Julie Condron with the reserve BD going to Minches Chief Riever. Best Puppy went to Janice & Dave’s Zwartbos Moonshine Whiskey. I had a lovely time and my critique will be put shortly. The rare breeds were well attended under Peter Clifton (Joseter) with Hovawarts winning 4 classes out of 7, with BB &BOB going to Gill’s girl, Annvad Lady Hazel, with the RBB going to Gina’s Isalynn V Elderens Hof and RBD going Ellen & Thomas’s Driftingsky Dusk. Well done to all.

Blackpool show was the next show with no classes but the AVNSC was attended by a small group of enthusiasts where BB was Gill’s Annvad Lady Hazel who also took Best Junior and the RBB was Zwartnos Moet owned by Janice & Dave who also took the BP with Zwartbos Moonshine Whiskey, judge was Peter Jolley who also judged the Rare breeds where BP was Moonshine Whiskey. A very well done to all. Now I have caught up with results, this weekend seen the anniversary show of the National Working & Pastoral breeds Society CH show, where our judge who is well known to us in the breed, Terry Munro was centre stage with another excellent entry of 16 with no absentees and his BV,BB,BOB went to John & Elaine’s Pines Acorn CDex, UDex, and they also took BP with Pines Flash Bang Wallop. RBB went to Gill’s Annvad Lady Hazel with BD going to Min’s Minches Chief Riever with RBD going to Janice & Dave’s Zwartbos Moonshine Whiskey. A very well done to all who attended and supported the show.

A request from Julie Condron as she is requesting photos for the Hovawart calendar 2018, she is looking for photos that capture the essence of the Hovawart , or even just your favourite photo , if you can email the photos to Julie at . The show schedules are out on the club website for our 30th anniversary show at Oswestry show ground on Saturday 30th September and Sunday 1st October , show, obedience, rally , breed talk and judging seminar on the Sunday by Ans Schellekens, with the new judging competence framework that is coming in by the KC, this seminar is important to all who are looking to judge our breed , or if your last seminar was more than 10 years since you last done it , then you have to renew it again, this is an opportunity, I think places are limited for the hands on assessment , but if you contact Liz Whitmore the club secretary, details on the club website . Any news contact me below.
